Most people have a fascination for historic restaurants even though they aren’t really normally into history.

These restaurants have long fed and welcomed diners, many famous, with recipes which have been passed down through generations like an evolving time capsule.

The world’s oldest restaurant, according to the Guinness Book of Records can be found in Madrid.

Although some claim there are older restaurants, Restaurante Botin earns the record because it has been in its original building continuously operating since its founding.

It was opened in 1725 by French cook Jean Botin and his Asturian wife, and as the two never had children it was passed on to a nephew and renamed Sobrino de Botin (sobrino means nephew in Spanish). Today it is known simply as Restaurante Botin.

Included in its fascinating history, it has bern included in many novels by famous authors like Graham Greene, Ernest Hemingway.

Restaurante Bolin, serves lunch and dinner with many of its famous dishes such as roasted suckling pig, and lamb, cooked in the original 1725 oven.

Because there is such interest in the history of the restaurant, it offers guided tour, which take in underground tunnels, the four dining rooms, the cellar, and more.
